My Nokia 6682 came in tonight, and I’m completely blown away by it. Compared to the 3650 and N-Gage the fit and finish on the 6682 is absolutely stunning. I was suprised to find full Opera (7.60) installed on the rs-mmc (yes, I’ve already downloaded the free 8.0 update). I quickly got rid of the nast Cingular branded theme and also switched on the active background, which I think I like (but I haven’t had enough time to be sure). There are a bunch of other trial apps included on the MMC including MobiTV that require exploring.
I’m definitely digging the camera “mode” that the phone puts itself in when you slide open the camera lens cover. I don’t think that picture quality is quite as good as my Sony DSC-U20 but it’s a definite improvement over my 3650.
The phone is also a lot smaller than any other Series 60 I’ve had. It’s probably not actually a whole lot smaller, but it’s a little smaller and feels even smaller than it is.
I’m really excited to have a modern Series 60 device so I can play with all of those apps that just don’t work on my 3650 or taco. I’m also excited about taking advantage of the newer Python for Series 60 features that were off limits to me on the 6.0 devices.
Expect more observations over the next few days but my initial impression is “wow.”

Like I said, the keys on the 6680 are too close. I’m spoilt by my 3650. Otherwise, it’s a great phone.

I agree, the keys are a little too close, but it’s a minor annoyance. I’m definitely going to miss holding my 3650 gameboy-style for quick typing. At the same time I’m slower but realtively proficient at T9 on the 6682 already. I think I’m a little faster on it than on the taco.

What PC platform are you using the 6682 with? Any chance it’s a Mac? Do you have any pics of the phone or of the applications you’re using with it.

I’ve been transfering files to it with a card reader on my Ubuntu Linux Laptop. iSync 2.1 and the 6682 should work but I haven’t tried that. I’ve also heard that the new PC Suite is somewhat tolerable, but I haven’t tried that either.
So far I’ve upgraded Opera, installed WirelessIRC and run through the settings and played with the installed apps. Next up are Python for Series 60, FExplorer, Putty, and a few others. I’ll definitely be writing about my 6682 over the next couple of days and I’ll try to include some screenshots.

I picked up my 6682 last Friday and can’t seem to put it down. It really is a great phone. I’m on a Mac Powerbook and have had great luck syncing and transferring files via bluetooth. The only problem I’m having right now is getting my Powerbook to connect to the 6682 via bluetooth for internet access. That setup has always been tricky with anyphone so I expect it will take a few hours of experimenting to get the modem scripts right. If anyone has any suggestions on that, drop me a line at coltwest@hotmail.com. The 6682 truly is a fantastic phone.
I broke down a while back and bought a SIM-free 6681 through an Authorized T-Mobile reseller. They were able to work with me on the price so that it was comparable to the two-year Cingular deal, but with only a one-year committment.
Add to that T-Mobile’s $20/month unlimited Internet (with complete willingness to discuss how to use the phone as a Bluetooth modem for your laptop) compared to Cingular’s $70/month for the same (the $20/month appears to be WAP only — good luck with IMAP or SSH and say goodbye to direct IM), and I think I’m well ahead on the deal.
Oh yeah, no operator screen, no crippled anything…
On the Mac connectivity issue:
It wouldn’t connect for me when I tried at work when I first got the phone, but when I went home, it worked just fine. No clue why. Use the “Set up Bluetooth Device…” option. Once connected, it works just fine with Address Book. My only real complaint is that the Address Book categories don’t map to Nokai categories. Minor “gotcha” is that the “sync only this group” option in iSync apparently doesn’t work with “smart groups”

I’ve been using IM, Opera, WirelessIRC, IMAP, Putty, and a bunch of other things just fine since the phone arrived. I’d send the thing back if I couldn’t. I’m on the $20 unlimited MEdia plan. Granted I’ve heard that some people only had access to WAP but I’m doing just fine over here.

Would you post the cingular branded theme, I happen to like it and have an unbranded 6682 that I would like to on my phone.
i have done quite a good research on 6680/6681 before buying my 6682 so i will say 6680 & 6681 are identical except that the 6681 works on GSM 900 instead of GSM 850, and the 6680, which is a 3G phone that works on UMTS 2100. I am running many of my favourite games on it and it works perfectly fine, yesterday i synchronized it with http://www.zyb.com to store my contacts. I am all happy with it.
