YOU protested, YOU called, and YOU wanted HFS back! Well, someone heard you…
Listen tonight at 7 PM to LIVE 105.7 Baltimore to witness the return of The Legendary HFS. Thank you, because without YOU this never could have happened.
I’m not sure how I feel about this. I feel like I’ve been played. WHFS, a station sucking and going down in flames suddenly goes off the air without notice. Loyal fans and people who remember it from 20 years ago are pissed. Immediately the morning show returns to its roots on WJFK. Then, a week or so later, it’s announced that WHFS is back, this time on 105.7, a station that Infinity hasn’t been sure what to do with for some time now. The new HFS will share the air with Howard stern and Don and Mike
It just feels so… rehearsed.

I still feel played, but I have to admit I’m excited too. On one hand I feel like the WHFS brand is getting whored around and beaten to death. On the other, I’m glad to have HFS back.

Screw ’em, it takes far too much effort to reprogram my radio, thus why I still have philly and south jersey stations. But Infinity is a bunch of jerks. Their little ploy to increase interest in their station will not work with me. Radio is about convenience and weekends and evenings are not convenient for most listeners. Screw ’em. DC 101 just needs to get off the Red Hot Chili Peppers crap and they can be DC’s reliable rock station
I will do anything to my ability to spread the word that HFS is back, and that some man/woman in a bord room, can’t decide that latino radio is more important than, good old alternative rock.
This is North America… IE: as in the United States, where the primary lanuage is English and Bad English, and Ebonics.
[I don’t have anything agaist Spanish or Latino people, but they are in the U.S. I know this is a sterotype, but how do they have more money to buy radios and stuff than I do?
The people who sponser WHFS, (all of those annoying commercials) yeah… They get into your head. You end up buying stuff from them… how could Spanish people have more ratings? WTF?!?]
What Infinity radio did will cost them… I hope that they undersand that simple fact.

Now that WHFS is back on the air, one needs to look at how ironic this is. 105.7 ? That use the be where the beloved WKTK FM was located; it was Baltimore’s only pure progressive rock station of the 70’s. Infinity Broadcasting should hire my cousin, Joe Buccheri (Bucary ) who was on in the evenings at WKTK from 7-midnight for well over six years and have him become WHFS’s General Manager/ Program Director. This town needs a really good Rock music station devoid of Don & Mike and certainly Howard Stern. I’m sure Joe would enjoy

bring back coast to coast with george noory; becuaes I am very displeased with your actions. The programming of 105.7 has killed a large listening base with hfs now on 105.7. It’s an outrage to the coasters who are dedicated listeners to George Noory ,and Art Bell, and the the supernatural topics that they promote and advanced issues that aren’t promoted on other radio outlets.The coast to coast demographics covers a wide range from age groups ,to education ;and whfs is pale in comparision. hfs is history, and it just shouldn’t be recycled. It’s a futile attempt at restoring something that died in the wasteland of american pop-culture. Ressurecting hfs on 105.7 is a cop-out and should rest in peace.

The new station has NOTHING to do with Mexicans….before you come on here talking all this trash, you need to get your facts straight, because the music that they play on the new 99.1 is Bachata, Merengue, Salsa, and Reggaeton, go online and get the info of where its from, nothing to do with Mexicans. ok? no one cares about hearing the same 20 songs over and over people… 1057 was better as a talk station. at least there was variety. i had no problem with hfs at 99.1 but you had your chance to support them. the corporate radio world has the wrong message and its because of the listeners so blame yourselves. Just when I was becoming very interested in Coast to Coast radio with George Noory, it suddenly became toast. Who made that incredibly lackluster decision? At one point you were painting the airwaves with color and imagination and now it is filled with BOW-LAG-NUH! Stick with Coast to Coast! Not WHFS and all the other potty-mouthed D.J’s. 17 was so yesterday. Let’s all grow up now. Don’t be scared. When will dollars and cents mean less than creativity?
Dude seriously, 99.1 was awesome but its not the damn listeners faults! Its the ppl who said that we need to get an uprise in listeners from our spanish and mexican and latino listeners! And 101.1 is NOTHING!!! like 99.1 because 101 plays old crap like blakc sabbith and guns’n’roses. 99.1 was more punk and alternative! hints the “99.1 hfs all for you punk and alternative rock…” duh only true listeners would know this and i dont agree with the fact that they took 99.1 and moved it after 2 weeks to 105.7 they should have taken it back to 99.1 so that us down in charles county could actually hear it as well as we used to and then further north where all the real latinos and mexicans are!

Yeah, I know what you mean, now it’s “the legendary hfs 105.7”, but it is o hard to say that and to get it to play on my sterio and the car. It took forever to get the slightest signal, and now you can still here static. But yeah, definitely glad to have it back.
Matt, I’m glad for your efforts in getting WHFS back. I understand why you could feel like you were played, but the way I see it, it’s possible that Infinity was considering this move, but were waiting to see the level of reaction to switching 99.1 to El Sol, to see if anyone cared. And obviously, they saw that lots and lots of people cared. So, either way, the petition drive made a big difference, and y’all did a bang-up job. Huzzah! I was so overjoyed to hear WHFS back on the air, I almost cried.
As far as the playlist format, I like the old-school to new-school HFS, since I was listening to the station in the old school days but even so, I don’t want to hear the older stuff ALL the time, because I also want to hear what’s been created now. On Friday night, I heard two Police songs in three hours, and that was one Police song too many. (Actually, it was two Police songs too many, for me.) Listening to WHFS over the weekend, it sounds like the playlist is still working itself out, but hopefully, they’ll find the right mix. So far, it works for me. Many, many thanks.
(Sorry about the disappointment of the Coast to Coast listeners. I never heard of it before this thread, but it sucks to lose something you love and hope you find another radio outlet.)

I am not knocking the fact that the Spanish-speakers of this country deserve a radio station that is in their language, with their favorite kind of music. I’m happy for them.
I am sorry the all-day talk radio is only part-of-the-day talk radio.
I am extremely happy that I have a small reminder of HFS that I can listen to. It is not the same without the Junkies. I do not get to listen to it on my way home or on my way to work. But I do get to listen to it. There is a small measure of peace within my alternative-craving mind. I would love to hear more of the up-and-coming punk, alternative, and rock bands, and less of the older bands. I like the older stuff, just not not the volume that we are seeing.
I want the HFStival back. Where else can you hear your favorite bands with all you friends and thousands of stangers? Where else can you hear Live, Jay-z, Eminem, Green Day, Chevelle, Jimmy’s Chicken Shack and many other styles in one place? I spent hours on the phone trying to win tickets.
In essence, HFS will never be the same. No more block-party weekends, world tours, ninetys nooners, or even (stretching it) the nine at nine, or commercial-free 8, noon and 5. Never again will I hear Adam or Doctor Drew announce “Loveline, on 99.1 WHFS”.
Just picked up 105.7 driving home tonight, just so everyone knows, Infinity owns 99.1 and Clear Channel owns DC101. But 99.1 was not originally a corporate station– apparently it was even better then. EL ZOl seems on par with KISS FM (unoriginal and everywhere) in Spanish. DC is a prime market for that, and this is all nothing more than marketing and money, sorry. Both Infinity and Clear Channel are corporations with concerns other than those of the audience, so please support any other options you can. Right now, I’m thinking a little about buying Siruis or XM because the guy who got FM programming off the ground is largely responsible for satilite radio, which is a paid service as opposed to whatever FM radio has become. But then, I am a pirate radio lover and a non-commercial station supporter, a critic of the FCC and not a fan of the RIAA. I would love to see HFS as a non-commerical station, run by people who really do care about the music and the community and supported by people who just want to be a part of it (there’s one in Charlottesville VA on WNRN 89.9 and 91.9). I bet there’s enough interest in the Baltimore/DC area for that.

hey,isn’t 105.7 where HFS got started? i think that’s what someone told me but i’m not sure.
also,i have nothing against spanish speaking people but why are they taking over our favorite radio stations? i mean,they even had a song in spanish at the grammys.i mean,come on.spanish speaking people are taking over the u.s. and by the time i’m 20 something the u.s. will be nothing but spanish speaking people.another thing is that i think that the spanish speaking people that come into the u.s. should have to learn english and have to adapt to our language,not us having to adapt to people coming in from outside countries to our homeland! anyways,so yeah. anyways, i am very happy that HFS is back,even if it is on a station that hardly comes in. even though i haven’t been around the full 20 some years that HFS was around, i still grew up listening to HFS. i was heartbroken when i heard they took it off air. i went to the nutcracker 04 and it was awesome. i planned to go to the HFStival this year but HFS was taken over by spainards.egh dumb peoples at infinity.

Wow. I continue to be amazed by the level of ignorance, animosity, and plain stupidity that racists continue to exhibit.
Guess what? I used to like HFS way back when, I just don’t listen to it anymore. It made me kind of sad when the switch first happened and I thought it was completely gone. However, I was also glad that there was finally ONE single radio station in this area that served the Latino demographic. We all can go to every single other station up and down the dial and listen to songs in English. We have a smorgasbord of choice when it comes to English music. Latinos in this area have ONE single station, and some of you would begrudge us even that single one.
I also find it pretty funny to hear some people whining about “Spanish people taking over the country”. Yes there are more of us here than ever before, but please don’t think we have the American dream all sewed up and some how Anglos are going to lose out. Don’t worry your pretty little heads too much. You guys still have most of the power in this country, generally speaking.
For those of you on the “we were here first” band wagon, I suggest you learn some history my dears. Unless your name is Two Running Bears or something similar your people came over here as immigrants even it is was on the Mayflower. And unless you can speak Taino or Lakota or some other native tongue, you and your people didn’t do a very good job of learning the language “over here†when you came.
Furthermore had you ever traveled outside of your little postage stamp, you would know that all across the country we have many foreign language radio and TV stations that cater to specific demographic groups (I watched Russian TV when I last visited NY).
In Europe people speak multiple languages, on a regular basis, and they don’t feel diminished at all by having to learn more than one language out of social necessity. It is so typical that Americans, who have it sooooo easy, would see that as some sort of burden.
I do think that immigrants should learn the language of the land they move to, and most of them do. That doesn’t mean they must forget and completely turn their backs on their original language and culture. After all, the English didn’t when they got here, why should we?

So… I think that all that “Spanish” people you talk about is probably from Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Chili, Venezuela, Cuba, etc… but not many from Spain (few people from Spain go to US, if you are European you cannot live happy in the fucking States, if I need to emigrate I prefer Sweden, UK, Germany, Italy, etc).

I just wanna say that the people from Spain is Caucasican, Mediterranean race like in France or Italy bacause Spain is in Europe. Spain is not in Southamerica or Mexico. Southamericans hate us as well (they were our old colonies). In Spain there are not indians (chicanos, etc) or blacks (we’ve got only gypsies here). Many southamericans are coming here to work and we have got inmigration problems because there are many people who is coming to live here in Spain.
