Open Message Queueing: The Next Big Web Services Thing?

Amazon already has its Simple Queue Service. Codehaus has its ActiveMQ. There is a lot of room in the marketplace for queues of varying openness and closedness. I’d love to see several queueing systems thrive, especially if they end up being as open as it looks like they may be.
I already used OpenJMS on a couple projects with rather good results. You can find it at http://openjms.sourceforge.net/
John Davies was talking about the AMQ protocol which is an open wire format that any messaging provider can implement.
There is currently a C based implementation being developed, which will one day be open source – and there’s also an open source Java implementation, which is actually ActiveMQ (http://activemq.org) though due to NDA restrictions we can’t yet distribute the AMQ transport for ActiveMQ
